About Toolzeroo Finance
Toolzeroo Finance is a free set of South African money calculators and plain-language guides. Every calculator shows the formula it uses, the official figures behind it and the date they were last checked.
What the site is
The calculators cover home loans and transfer duty, personal and car loans, salary and PAYE, UIF, retirement and two-pot withdrawals, tax-free savings, capital gains and estate duty, labour-law pay such as overtime, leave and notice, and everyday budgeting. The guides explain the rules behind them, such as how prime follows the repo rate or how the tax tables work.
Everything is worked out in your browser. You do not need an account. The numbers you type are not sent to us: the site counts only which calculator was opened or used. If you open or share a results link, your inputs are part of the page address, which advertising scripts on the page can see.
Who runs it
Toolzeroo Finance is the South African money section of Toolzeroo, an independent website that publishes free online tools: everyday calculators and converters, recipes, a resume builder and games.
Toolzeroo is not a bank, lender, insurer, financial services provider, registered tax practitioner or law firm. It does not sell financial products, arrange credit or give personal advice. The calculators and guides are general education: they show how the rules and the maths work so that you can check a quote, a payslip or a tax estimate yourself, and ask better questions of the people who do give advice.
How the site is paid for
The site is free and is paid for by advertising from Google AdSense. Google chooses the ads, and they are labelled as ads. There are no affiliate or referral links, the calculators and guides do not name, rank or recommend banks, lenders, funds or other providers, and no provider pays to appear on the site or to change a result.
How we write and check content
- Official sources only. Rates, limits and rules come from the people who set them: SARS and National Treasury for tax, the South African Reserve Bank for the repo rate, the National Credit Regulator for credit limits, the Department of Employment and Labour for labour law and the minimum wage, Stats SA for inflation, and the Acts and municipal publications themselves. We do not use bank, insurer or fund marketing as a source.
- Show the working. Each calculator has a How we calculate and sources box with the formula, the figures built into it, links to the official sources and the date they were checked. Our methodology page lists all of them in one place.
- Say what is left out. Every calculator states its assumptions and what it does not model, such as fringe benefits on a payslip or a bank's own affordability rules.
- A second check before publishing. Pages are written and maintained with the help of AI tools. Before a new page or a changed figure is published, a separate review checks every figure, rule and safety point against the official source, and the calculators are tested automatically against worked examples.
- Dated, and reviewed on a schedule. South African figures change at known times. We review them on the calendar below and update the checked date when we do.
When figures are reviewed
| What changes | When | Calculators affected |
|---|---|---|
| Income tax tables, rebates, medical credits, retirement and TFSA limits, CGT, transfer and estate duty, lump sum and travel tables | Announced in the February Budget, usually effective 1 March (transfer duty changes have recently taken effect on 1 April) | Salary & tax, savings, property, vehicles |
| Repo rate (and so prime and credit rate caps) | After each SARB Monetary Policy Committee decision, six times a year (next: 19 November 2026) | Loans, property, credit |
| National minimum wage | Usually from 1 March, when gazetted | Minimum wage, overtime |
| BCEA earnings threshold and UIF ceiling | When the Minister of Employment and Labour gazettes a change | Overtime, UIF, take-home pay |
| Municipal property rates | 1 July, with each municipality's budget | Property rates |
| Fuel prices | Monthly | Fuel cost (you enter the price) |
Corrections
If you find a wrong figure, an outdated rate or a result that does not match your payslip or statement, email privacy@toolzeroo.com with the page and the numbers you used. We check the report against the official source, fix confirmed errors, and update the checked date on the page.
Use the results with care
A calculator result is an estimate from the numbers you enter and the rules described on the page. Your bank, employer, fund or SARS works from your full records and may get a different answer. For a decision that matters, confirm the figures with the provider or the authority, and speak to a registered professional about your own situation. See the disclaimer and privacy page for the full terms.
