Fuel is only one component

Fuel is easy to notice because it is paid frequently, but insurance, servicing, finance and licensing also affect ownership cost.

Annualise the costs

Monthly costs can be multiplied by 12, while annual costs can be entered directly. Divide the annual total by annual kilometres to produce a simple cost-per-kilometre figure.

Optional costs

Depreciation, parking, tolls and other journey-specific costs can matter. They are not automatically included in the simple calculator, so understand the scope of the result.
